Skagit County to Stop Accepting Glass at All Transfer Stations
Starting October 1. Due to a closure of a glass manufacturing facility in Seattle, there is no longer any facility in the area that will take our recycled glass
New Solid Waste Rates Coming September 1, 2024
On June 10, the Skagit County Commissioners approved new solid waste rates that will go into effect on September 1, 2024. Garbage brought in by self-haul customers will now be $137/ton with a $27 minimum for the first 360 pounds. Appliances will be $13, and refrigerators/freezers will be $33. At Clear Lake Transfer Site a can of general garbage will be $9 and a half-can will be $4.50. For more details, please see the approved rate resolution here .
On September 12, 2023 the Skagit County Commissioners approved a contract with a new vendor, Waste Management, to provide long haul transport and disposal of all solid waste collected at the Skagit County Transfer Station. Both bids submitted for the contract had a 40% increase in transport and disposal costs over the previous contract. As a result of the cost increase, Skagit County Public Works conducted a solid waste rate study to ensure rates were sufficient to stay solvent. The final rate study report can be viewed here. Public Works staff presented a new proposed rate structure to the Solid Waste Advisory Committee and Solid Waste System Governance Board, with the new structure ultimately recommended for approval to the Skagit County Commissioners in April. A public hearing was held on Tuesday, May 21, in the Commissioner’s Hearing Room.

Saturday, October 5th from 10am-4pm at the Skagit County Transfer Station, 14104 Ovenell Rd, and DURING the clothing swap.
Clothing donation is not required. Please feel free to take items without a donation.
Please, only a maximum of 2 large bags of clothing donated per person.
No heavily stained items, underwear or socks. No exceptions.
All sizes including children’s clothing are welcome.

About Solid Waste Management
Solid
waste or garbage is hauled by rail to Roosevelt Regional Landfill in
Klickitat County, Washington.
Recycled
materials
which are collected separately at three sites are transported
to a variety of local companies for furtherprocessing.
Household
Hazardous Waste
and moderate risk waste (from local businesses)
is collected at the Skagit County Recycling and Transfer Station Collection
Facility where it is packed and shipped for recycling or storage in
a hazardous waste landfill.
Management Plan History and Purpose
The Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan (CSWMP) was prepared to provide a guide for solid waste activities in Skagit County. This CSWMP addresses solid waste management throughout Skagit County.
The cities had the option to develop their own plan, but chose to participate in the County’s planning process. The various Tribes in Skagit County also have the option to develop their own plans. This CSWMP was prepared through a team effort involving the Skagit County Department of Public Works and the Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC). The SWAC members represent not only the interests of their respective agencies and businesses, but as residents and members of the community they also represent the public’s interest.
